Premium ice poles from Bear and Water, imported by Ermine Skate. The Bear and Water Blue ice pole (formerly sold as the Skyllermarks Blue ice pole) is widely considered the gold standard in Scandinavia.
A single pole can be used to quickly test the supportiveness of wild ice. Poles can be used in pairs to “double pole” against the wind or provide balance on rough ice. Poles are priced and sold in pairs.
- The sharp stainless steel tip on the Bear and Water Blue ice poles is far less likely to bend than those on poles from other brands.
- The robust tapered aluminum shaft is manufactured in Austria by Bear and Water.
- The handle is large and grippy, and the wide base provides excellent support for your hand while striking ice. This handle was created by Skyllermarks specifically for ice poles, and is far superior to the repurposed ski pole handles found on other poles.
- A closed-cell foam sleeve around the shaft can be repositioned as needed. This insulative foam traps warmth and will actually cause a user’s hand to warm up while carrying a single pole.
Sizing by skater height
Shorter skaters may prefer the shorter size; longer poles allow a skater to reach farther when testing ice.

The Pikmakarn Turbo is a revolutionary Swedish ice pole — not to mention one of the hottest products in the Scandinavian Nordic skating scene. Ermine is excited to bring this innovative ice pole to the United States!
Unlike conventional ice poles, which have a single ice pole handle, the Pikmakarn Turbo has two handles on each pole: one positioned perfectly for double-poling, and a second lower handle positioned just right for testing ice. Meanwhile, the contemporary stainless steel bullet tip and hardened aluminum shaft keep the pole light, stiff, and responsive. The result is an extraordinarily versatile high-performance pole that excels at both double-poling and ice testing.
Features at a glance:
- The powder-coated aluminum shafts are durable, high-vis, and undeniably cool.
- Bright, heavy-duty reflector bands aid visibility and safety in low light.
- Hardened Swedish stainless steel bullet tips prevent snagging, penetrate ice easily, and are virtually impervious to rust.
- Each pair of poles includes a small compass embedded into one of the upper handles.
Pikmakarn Turbo ice poles are imported from Sweden by Ermine Skate. Each order includes two poles.

High-quality ice picks from Swedish company Skyllermarks. Ice picks (also called “ice claws,” “ice spikes,” or “ice awls”) greatly aid a user’s ability to self-rescue after breaking through ice. They are an essential piece of safety gear for those who venture onto wild ice. Skyllermarks’ Hansa-Dubben is a highly refined product with many years of successful development and use in Scandinavia and elsewhere. They are CE-Approved as a Class-II Personal Protective Equipment.
For Nordic skaters, Scandinavian ice picks are superior to those currently offered in North America. They are worn around on the neck or on a backpack strap and are easy to access and deploy, and unlike some other ice picks they float.

The Syllermarks Hansa-Linan rescue throw rope is a safety device that facilitates the rescue of individuals who fall through thin ice. The Hansa-Linan is developed and produced in cooperation with the Swedish Lifesaving Society, and its design is based on extensive research and real-world use in Scandinavia.
The Hansa-Linan is designed with functionality at the forefront. It includes a 23-meter floating polypropylene rope paired with a weighted bag and a large grab loop. Boating throw ropes often have mesh sides that allow water to drain from the bag, but which can allow snow and ice to enter the bag and interfere with the rope in winter. By contrast, the Hansa-Linan has a solid bag with a smooth surface, allowing it to slide across the ice to a rescuee.
