Notes on the Ermine Skate A110-A

“The A110-A (A110-Alpenglow) was a perfect example of a happy accident. I sent a box of A110 frames down to the same artist who had anodized the A100-W, and asked for a pink to purple fade with splatters. I loved the sample photos, but when the batch was done I was surprised to find that about half faded pink-to-purple and the others faded purple-to-pink.

Our anodizer acknowledged that it had been a mistake, and offered to redo them. But I thought that the ‘accident’ had only made the run more interesting. When we launched the skates we let purchasers choose their fade direction.

In addition to the opposite fades, these skates also had a high degree of overall variability. The purples ranged nearly from lavender to royal purple, and the pinks ranged from coral to magenta. There were even little streaks of blue in some of them. These skates were truly one of a kind, and you could find something to admire in every single one.”
